Setup Guide
Follow these steps to get your MAKCU device up and running.
Requirements
CH343 Driver Installed
MAKCU requires the CH343 USB-to-serial driver to be loaded on your computer (the computer you will use for flashing). The driver download link is provided in the section below.
Correct COM Port
The COM port for USB 2 should be below 10. If your COM port number is 10 or higher, you may experience connection issues.
Baud Rate
Baud rate is matched to the software you will use, please see the baud rate section in the information page.
Both Sides Flashed
Make sure you have correctly set up and flashed MAKCU on both the left side (device) and right side (host).
Supported Device
Ensure you have a supported mouse or keyboard connected. MAKCU supports both keyboard and mouse devices.
1. Install CH343 Driver
Install the CH343 driver on your PC (the computer you will use for flashing).
- Download the CH343 driver from the link below
- Run the installer on your PC
- Follow the installation wizard to complete the setup
2. Flash MAKCU Firmware
Flash the firmware to your MAKCU device using the firmware flashing page.
The flash page has a dropdown menu that shows the left and right firmwares. You should match USB1 to the left side and USB3 to the right side of the USB port. Under the MAKCU board, there is text to explain the numbers.
How Flashing Works
Flash Mode
First, you need to enter flash mode. Hold down the button closest to the side you want to flash (left button for left side/USB1, right button for right side/USB3), then connect the USB cable. Once you hear the USB sound on your PC, release the button.
Connecting
After entering flash mode, connect to the device using the connection button at the top right of the page. The system will automatically detect that the device is in flash mode.
Selecting Firmware
Select the appropriate firmware from the dropdown menu. Make sure to select the left firmware for USB1 and the right firmware for USB3.
Flashing
Click on the firmware in the dropdown to start flashing. The progress will be shown in the log window.
Completing
When the flash has completed, remove the USB cable. Then repeat the process with the other side (hold the other button down, connect USB cable, wait for USB sound, release button, connect at top right, and flash).
Flash Mode vs Normal Mode
Understanding how MAKCU works with its 2 chips and 3 USB ports.
MAKCU Structure
MAKCU has 2 chips and 3 USB ports. USB port 1 and USB port 3 are connected to the 2 chips. USB port 2 is the COM port used to send commands to MAKCU while in normal use mode.
Flash Mode
Flash mode is used only when updating the firmware on MAKCU.
How to Enter Flash Mode:
- Hold down the button closest to MAKCU (left chip = left button, right chip = right button)
- Connect the USB cable to the corresponding USB port (USB 1 for left chip, USB 3 for right chip)
- Once you hear the USB connection sound on your PC, release the button
- The device will now appear on your PC in flash mode
Important: If the button is NOT held down when the cable is connected, the device will NOT show up on your PC.
Note: In flash mode, you should only use ONE cable to perform flashing. Do not connect multiple USB cables at the same time.
Normal Mode
This is how MAKCU is used during normal operation.
Normal Mode Connections:
- USB 1 → Connected to your gaming PC
- USB 2 → COM port (used for sending commands to MAKCU)
- USB 3 → Connected to your mouse
Important: In normal mode, MAKCU can be tested and adjusted. You do NOT need to flash USB 2, and you do NOT hold any buttons down to use normal mode.
Power Requirements
Understanding how MAKCU receives power is critical for proper operation.
Normal Mode:
In normal mode, USB 1 + USB 2 must be connected to power MAKCU. USB 2 does not provide power to MAKCU - this is done to ensure there is no back feeding to the main PC and the 2nd PC from both USB ports.
Flash Mode:
Flash mode uses 1 cable at a time. Only connect USB 1 OR USB 3, not both simultaneously.
Warning: Failing to follow these power requirements will lead to incorrect usage, MAKCU showing signs of not being functional, and being unable to flash. These broken symptoms are due to not understanding the power requirements.
Problem:
Cannot use settings when device is in flash mode, or cannot flash when device is in normal mode.
Solution:
To enter flash mode: Hold the button, connect USB cable, wait for USB sound, then release button. To use normal mode: Connect USB 1 to gaming PC, USB 2 for COM port, and USB 3 to mouse - no buttons need to be held.
